Sharjah Chamber Strengthens Economic Ties with Uganda and Jordan Through Strategic Discussions

The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has taken significant steps to bolster economic and trade relations with Uganda and Jordan, emphasizing its commitment to enhancing bilateral business ties and fostering investment partnerships. This initiative is crucial as it aligns with Sharjah’s strategic goals to position itself as a premier global hub for business and investment.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations with Uganda

A pivotal meeting at the SCCI headquarters brought together H.E. Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI, and H.E. Zaake Wanume Kibedi, Uganda’s Ambassador to the UAE. The discussions underscored the importance of expanding economic cooperation between the two regions, which has seen notable progress in recent years through joint initiatives.

The meeting was attended by key figures including H.E. Mohammad Ahmed Amin Al-Awadi, Director-General of SCCI; Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Director-General for Communication and Business Sector; and Dr. Fatima Khalifa Al Muqarrab, Director of the International Relations Department. Together, they reviewed the steady growth of economic ties, which have been fortified by strategic investment partnerships across various sectors.

Promising Investment Landscape

H.E. Abdallah Sultan Al Owais acknowledged the efforts of the Ugandan Embassy in the UAE, which has played a vital role in supporting SCCI’s initiatives. He highlighted Sharjah’s competitive investment environment, which offers Ugandan companies a gateway for regional and international expansion. This environment is characterized by its strategic geographic location, world-class infrastructure, and a business-friendly ecosystem that promotes sustainable growth.

Al Owais reiterated SCCI’s commitment to providing Ugandan investors with comprehensive support services, enabling them to capitalize on emerging opportunities in Sharjah and beyond. The discussions also included plans for Uganda’s upcoming trade mission to the UAE in October 2026, which will feature a high-level delegation of government officials and business leaders aiming to explore new trade partnerships.

Expanding Trade Opportunities

The Ugandan delegation noted a remarkable increase in bilateral trade, which surged from $600 million in 2018 to $4.7 billion, illustrating the depth of economic relations and the potential for further collaboration. The delegation expressed appreciation for SCCI’s proactive role in supporting various strategic initiatives in Uganda, aiming to leverage SCCI’s expertise to advance its sustainable development goals.

Advancing UAE-Jordanian Economic Cooperation

In a separate engagement, H.E. Abdallah Sultan Al Owais met with H.E. Omar El Atoum, Consul General of the Kingdom of Jordan in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral economic relations and expanding trade and investment cooperation.

The Jordanian Consul General was briefed on SCCI’s extensive portfolio of business support services, which are designed to streamline procedures and foster innovation. Both parties emphasized the need for continuous communication and close coordination between the Sharjah Chamber and the Jordanian Consulate to strengthen private-sector engagement and contribute to shared economic growth.

Future Initiatives and Collaborative Efforts

The discussions also explored opportunities for joint business forums and investment events to showcase Jordan’s investment potential to Sharjah’s business community. Facilitating B2B meetings between companies operating in sectors of mutual advantage was identified as a key strategy to foster new commercial partnerships and expand trade between Sharjah and Jordan.

These initiatives are expected to generate successful business deals and enhance economic collaboration, further solidifying the ties between these regions.

In summary, the strategic discussions held by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry with representatives from Uganda and Jordan reflect a proactive approach to enhancing bilateral trade relations. By fostering investment partnerships and facilitating business opportunities, SCCI is not only reinforcing Sharjah’s position as a leading business destination but also contributing to the broader economic landscape of the region.
