The Security Middle East Conference: Exploring Sustainability in the Industry

The Security Middle East Conference recently delved into the topic of sustainability, shedding light on how the industry can create a green and secure future. The panel discussion, titled “How can the industry create a green and secure future?” brought together thought leaders from various sectors to discuss the importance of sustainability in the security industry.

Moderated by Muttahir Salim, Associate Director of Security for Buro Happold, the panel included Saeed Ba-Dugaish, Manager Security Operations at Aramco, Dr. Ahmed Sakalla, Chief Operations Manager at Wafrat Al Kheer Group, and Farah Ghanem, Head of Climate Change & Policies at Alpin Limited.

The discussion kicked off with a focus on the starting point of sustainability and its role within the Saudi Vision 2030 initiative. Each panelist shared insights from their own experiences, emphasizing the need for sustainability to be integrated into all aspects of business operations.

Ahmed Sakalla highlighted how sustainability is a fundamental aspect of all initiatives at Wafrat Al Kheer Group, with a focus on environmental, social, and governance impacts. Saeed Ba-Dugaish discussed Aramco’s approach to achieving ‘net zero’ emissions, emphasizing the importance of defining and offsetting CO2 emissions.

The panel agreed that sustainability should be a priority from the planning phase onwards, with dedicated professionals driving the change towards a more sustainable future. The discussion concluded with a call for collaboration and commitment to operational strategies that prioritize environmental responsibility.
