Transforming Public Safety: The Thames Valley CCTV Partnership’s Innovative Approach to Sustainable CCTV Solutions

Forward-Thinking Collaboration Transforms Sustainable CCTV Provision for Police and Local Authorities

In a groundbreaking initiative, the Thames Valley CCTV Partnership has partnered with Genetec, a premier global provider of enterprise physical security software, to revolutionize the management of public space CCTV for police and local authorities across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, and Oxfordshire.

The innovative program centralizes CCTV monitoring within dedicated Thames Valley Police control rooms, significantly reducing costs for participating councils. This initiative addresses the pressing financial constraints faced by local authorities, enabling them to maintain high standards of community safety without the burden of infrastructure and staffing expenses.

Matthew Barber, Police and Crime Commissioner for Thames Valley, emphasized the vital role of CCTV in community safety, stating, “It helps deter crime, identify offenders, and support prosecutions.” The new model leverages Genetec Security Center, a unified platform that integrates multiple security applications into a single user-friendly interface. This transition allows for enhanced operational efficiencies through the utilization of Hanwha Vision AI-enabled cameras, promising improved coverage and capabilities in monitoring.

As part of the first phase, control rooms in Milton Keynes and Slough have undergone significant upgrades from outdated analogue systems to sophisticated IP-based networks, enabling smoother workflows and better accessibility for officers. Plans for consolidation into a central hub in Abingdon Police Station will further strengthen operational resilience.

“The CCTV Command Suite has transformed our workflows, enabling quick evidence review and packaging for investigators,” said Jason Owen, CCTV Operations Manager at Thames Valley Police.

Ben Durrant from Genetec recognized the partnership’s potential, stating it paves the way for smarter, more responsive policing. The Thames Valley CCTV Partnership stands as a hallmark of public safety progress, providing local authorities with a sustainable CCTV solution while enhancing police effectiveness against crime.
