In a revealing new cybersecurity report, Trend Micro has announced that over 188 million threats were successfully blocked in the MENA region during the first half of 2024. The company’s latest insights raise alarm bells as they anticipate a significant rise in AI-driven cyberattacks and ransomware tactics in 2025.
Titled The Easy Way In/Out: Securing the Artificial Future, the report warns of increasingly sophisticated threats, including hyper-personalized scams powered by deepfake technology. With cybercrime costs expected to exceed $10 trillion by 2025, consumer data has become a prime target amid a growing underground economy.
Criminal tactics are evolving, leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance social engineering schemes that exploit human vulnerabilities. Among the most concerning predictions is the emergence of malicious ‘Digital Twins,’ where leaked personal information is used to create AI models mimicking individual behaviors. Coupled with deepfake audio and video, these digital replicas could facilitate advanced scams like business email compromise and large-scale misinformation campaigns.
“The landscape of cybersecurity is shifting dramatically in an AI-driven world. Our proactive approach and deep understanding of emerging threats enable us to prepare businesses for these challenges,” stated Tarek Jammoul, North Gulf and Levant Country Director at Trend Micro. He emphasized the efficacy of their solutions, which blocked over 4.9 million threats in Kuwait alone during H1 2024.
As the threat landscape becomes ever more complex, the report also highlights critical vulnerabilities ranging from API exploits to legacy system weaknesses. With ransomware attackers expected to outpace endpoint detection advancements by targeting under-protected environments, the call for robust security strategies has never been more urgent.
