Trainee IPS Officer Accused of Assault: Outrage and Calls for Accountability

In a disturbing incident that has ignited outrage on social media, trainee IPS officer Rahul Balhara of the Tripura cadre faces serious allegations of assault and abuse of power. The situation came to light when Vikas Dhayal, a UPSC coach, shared his alarming encounter on social media, detailing an alleged attack at a wedding in Kapashera, Delhi, on December 6.

Dhayal claims Balhara smashed a whiskey glass over his head "for sadistic pleasure" during the event. The brutal assault left him needing immediate medical attention at a hospital in Gurugram. In a shocking turn, rather than receiving support, Dhayal reported facing coercion from local authorities when he sought help.

According to him, ASI Basant Kumar of Kapashera Police Station refused to file a formal FIR, instead drafting a complaint on plain paper without a proper registration. When Dhayal presented CCTV footage of the assault, it was allegedly ignored as the officer cited personal commitments, stating he had "a wedding to attend."

Dhayal’s decision to take to social media has not only raised awareness but also attracted retaliation. Shortly after his post went viral, SI Sachin Deswal, associated with Balhara, called Dhayal in for questioning—not to address his allegations, but to implicate him in a counter-assault case. Despite threats and pressure to retract his statement, Dhayal has remained resolute, demanding accountability and an inquiry into the incident.

The lack of decisive action from law enforcement and perceived favoritism raises critical questions about police accountability and the protection of those in power. This alarming case emphasizes the pressing need for reforms within the justice system, as calls for justice continue to echo across platforms. In a climate where truth can be obscured, the integrity of investigative processes remains paramount, as the public watches closely for the next steps in this troubling saga.
