L3Harris Technologies has been awarded a contract to deliver its VAMPIRE (Vehicle-Agnostic Modular Palletized ISR Rocket Equipment) counter-unmanned system to the U.S. Navy for littoral defense against drone threats.
L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) has been selected by the U.S. Navy to deliver VAMPIRE counter-unmanned systems (C-UxS) in support of the U.S.’ growing integrated C-UxS defense architecture.
Capabilities of the VAMPIRE System
The VAMPIRE system is a self-contained weapons solution that delivers advanced reconnaissance and precision strike capabilities against drones and remotely piloted platforms across various domains. According to Tony Calderon, President of Targeting & Sensor Systems at L3Harris, “VAMPIRE is a flexible and effective system that meets the unique requirements of the U.S. Navy for littoral C-UxS defense.” He also noted that the company is engineering new capabilities to adapt to customer missions while ruggedizing VAMPIRE against the environmental stresses of maritime environments.
Additional Developments
L3Harris is also delivering VAMPIRE systems to the U.S. Army. Earlier this year, the company unveiled its Wraith Shield software, which provides a radio-as-a-sensor capability to defeat small drones. This software can be integrated with VAMPIRE and Drone Guardian® systems to deliver a layered defense against unmanned systems (UxS) threats.
The contract signifies a step forward in enhancing the U.S. Navy’s capabilities to counter drone threats in littoral environments, reflecting the increasing importance of integrated defense systems in modern military operations.
