The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has kicked into high gear in Jaipur, Rajasthan, following the Rajasthan High Court’s directive to investigate allegations of illegal sand mining in the state. The case, previously under local police jurisdiction, has now been elevated to the central level, underscoring the seriousness of the issue at hand.

The CBI has re-registered the case, originally filed as FIR No. 527/2023 at the Bundi police station after a suspect was caught transporting a substantial 40 metric tons of sand without proper documentation. The vehicle owner involved in the illicit act has also been apprehended and is currently in judicial custody.

In a swift move, the CBI raided the accused’s residence in Bundi, uncovering a trove of evidence that may shed light on the full extent of the illegal operation. The High Court has instructed the CBI to delve deeper into possible connections with the ‘mafias,’ organized networks operating in the Chambal and Banas river regions known for illegal mining activities.

The CBI is diligently compiling a detailed report, inclusive of all FIRs and related crimes, to crack down on these networks with full force. The gravity of the situation is highlighted by the central agency’s rapid and decisive actions, signaling a crackdown on illegal sand mining in Rajasthan.
