Recent Cyberattack on Canadian Electronic Payment Gateway Slim CD: Data Breach and Security Measures to Stay Safe

Canadian electronic payment gateway Slim CD has recently fallen victim to a cyberattack, resulting in the unauthorized access and theft of sensitive financial data. Slim CD, a processing gateway that facilitates electronic payments, particularly credit card transactions for US and Canadian merchants, has confirmed that credit card holders whose payments were processed through their system are among those affected by the breach.

The breach was discovered on or about June 15th, 2024, when Slim CD noticed suspicious activity within its computer environment. An investigation revealed that unauthorized actors may have had access to the system between August 17th, 2023, and June 15th, 2024, potentially compromising certain credit card information.

Regulators in Maine state have reported that a total of 1,693,000 individuals have been impacted by the breach, with stolen data including names, addresses, credit card numbers, and expiration dates. Despite the breach, Slim CD has stated that there is currently no evidence of the stolen data being used for identity theft or fraud.

In response to the incident, Cybernews has issued a series of recommendations to help affected individuals safeguard their information. These include contacting their bank to replace breached credit cards, monitoring bank statements and online account activity for unauthorized charges, resetting passwords for all associated accounts, enabling multi-factor authentication, and using password manager software to enhance security.

While Slim CD has not offered credit monitoring services to victims, they urge individuals to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. The company is working to enhance its security measures to prevent future breaches and protect the data of its clients.
