Karim Zaki, who led the development of this technology, highlighted the issue: "Dialogue has become increasingly difficult to understand due to production errors and other factors, particularly for viewers with hearing loss." The addressable market for such solutions is significant. The hearing aids market alone is anticipated to rise from $8.74 billion in 2024 to $10.98 billion by 2034. Additionally, the global assistive technology market is set to expand from $26.8 billion in 2024 to $41.0 billion by 2033. With over 1.5 billion people worldwide affected by hearing loss—about 20% of the global population—there’s a pressing demand for effective solutions.

Monetization Challenges of Invisible Features

The difficulty lies in monetizing these invisible yet essential features. Consumers often pay a premium for overt enhancements like superior camera quality or larger screens, but they may overlook background improvements that aren’t immediately apparent. Zaki explained, “Imagine watching a movie where sound effects and background music compete with dialogue. Our AI Speech Enhancement acts like a smart filter, lowering background sounds when necessary.”

The company’s collaborative approach, which involved working with organizations like RNID (Royal National Institute for Deaf People), ensured that the technology genuinely addressed varied user needs, not merely perceived issues.

Zaki added, "For some, this enhancement means watching a film without needing subtitles. For others, it’s about making TV viewing enjoyable again."
