LG Magna e-Powertrain Receives Cyber Security Management System Certification from TÜV Rheinland

LG Magna e-Powertrain (LG Magna), the joint venture of LG Electronics and Magna International, has recently achieved Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) certification from TÜV Rheinland, a global certification organization. This certification signifies that LG Magna is fully compliant with the necessary vehicle cybersecurity regulations and requirements, demonstrating a comprehensive security system that covers all aspects of component design, development, post-development cybersecurity activities, and management.

As automotive cybersecurity becomes increasingly important, LG Magna’s certification is a significant milestone, especially with the impending WP.29 UNECE R155 cybersecurity regulations set to take effect in July 2024. These regulations will require all vehicles produced by automotive OEMs to meet specific cybersecurity management standards to obtain type approval for selling vehicles in 56 countries, including EU member states, the UK, Japan, and South Korea.

LG Magna’s proactive approach to cybersecurity involves implementing a robust framework to meet the growing demand for secure vehicle components from global automakers. The company has established a thorough cybersecurity process that is continuously updated and applied throughout the lifecycle of each product, in accordance with ISO/SAE 21434 requirements. This includes identifying and assessing security threats, developing response strategies, and implementing risk monitoring systems for swift issue remediation.

Cheong Won-suk, CEO of LG Magna, emphasized the importance of addressing security vulnerabilities and continuously strengthening systems and processes in response to the rising threat of vehicle cyberattacks. With LG Magna’s CSMS certification, the company solidifies its position as a trusted supplier of vehicle components, further enhancing its presence in the global automotive market.
