Insights on Cyber-Responsibility: IT Teams Facing Increased Pressure

IT teams across Europe are feeling the weight of cyber-responsibility as they navigate the ever-changing threat landscape. A recent report by Corelight titled Productive Paranoia – How Threat Hunters Can Turn Their Fear of the Unknown into a Positive reveals that over half of IT decision makers (54%) admit to losing sleep over the fear of cyberattacks.

Smaller companies with 100-249 employees are even more anxious, with 63% feeling the pressure. The survey gathered insights from ITDMs in the UK, France, and Germany, highlighting the challenges posed by remote work environments and supply chain threats.

Despite meticulous planning, the unpredictability of cyberthreats remains a significant challenge for IT teams. Matt Ellison, Technical Director EMEA at Corelight, emphasizes the importance of embracing ‘productive paranoia’ by combining advanced AI technology with human intelligence to proactively manage threats and build resilience.

The survey reveals that 86% of ITDMs are experiencing increased pressure from executive leadership since 2020. With remote working environments and supply chain threats topping the list of concerns, IT teams are in a constant race to keep up with the latest threats.

To address these challenges, organizations are looking to enhance their SecOps capabilities by embracing a blend of people and technology. Nearly half of the organizations already employ dedicated threat hunters, with risk-based threat hunting and threat intelligence-based strategies being the most popular approaches.

Overall, IT teams are determined to build resilience against new and unknown threats by incorporating AI and automation into their security strategies. The future of cybersecurity seems to be a combination of human intelligence and advanced technology to stay ahead of cybercriminals.
