Watson Clinic Settlement: Your Guide to Claiming Compensation for Data Breach

Overview of the Settlement

Clients of Watson Clinic LLC, both current and former, have the opportunity to claim a share of a $10 million settlement resulting from a significant data breach that occurred in February 2024. This incident, which involved an unauthorized third party accessing sensitive personal data, has led to the potential publication of private information, images included, on the dark web.

What Happened?

In February 2024, a data security breach was identified at Watson Clinic, leading to the exposure of sensitive information. The compromised data includes names, addresses, birthdates, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account details, and an array of medical information, including pre- and post-operative images. In light of this breach, Watson Clinic has agreed to settle with those affected.

According to their website, Watson Clinic boasts a workforce exceeding 1,600, comprising over 350 physicians across 40 medical and surgical specialties, serving more than a million outpatient visits annually from 19 modern locations.

Key Settlement Dates

Those who were affected by the data breach need to be mindful of several important deadlines:

  • Submit a Claim Form: Due by February 5, 2026.
  • Opt-Out of the Settlement: By January 6, 2026.
  • Object to the Settlement: Also by January 6, 2026.

Payment Timeline and Approval Process

All claims must be filed or postmarked by February 5, 2026. The court hearing to approve the settlement is scheduled for March 9, 2026. Stakeholders should be aware that even with court approval, there may be appeals or other legal processes that could cause delays in payment. Currently, there is no set timeline for when payments will begin to be distributed.

Purpose of the Settlement

The proposed settlement emerged from a need to resolve the aftermath of the February 2024 breach while minimizing the risks and expenses associated with a trial. Although Watson Clinic denies any wrongdoing, they aim to provide compensation to those affected by the breach, illustrating their commitment to offer reparations amid the incident.

This settlement serves as a significant step for Watson Clinic patients to reclaim some peace of mind in the aftermath of a distressing data security breach.
