Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch has successfully thwarted a cyber fraud scheme, saving Rs 1.02 crores from being stolen from residents of Kandivali, Bandra, and Borivali. The victims were targeted through share-trading schemes and courier scams, which lured them into transferring funds to fraudulent accounts. Prompt action by the police resulted in freezing the funds and preventing the scam from reaching its intended targets.

In a separate incident, a Nerul resident fell victim to a gang of cyber fraudsters who posed as Mumbai cyber police officers. The victim was coerced into transferring Rs 46 lakh to multiple bank accounts under the threat of legal action for fabricated charges. Thankfully, the victim realized the scam and reported it to the Navi Mumbai cyber police, leading to an ongoing investigation into the fraudsters.

On a positive note, the Mumbai Police’s cyber cell was able to recover over Rs 1 crore from two residents who had fallen prey to online investment scams. The victims were promised high returns in the stock market but ended up being cheated by fraudsters. Thanks to the timely intervention of the police, the funds were halted from being transferred to unidentified accounts, and efforts are underway to apprehend the culprits responsible for the scam.

These incidents highlight the ongoing threat of cyber fraud and the importance of vigilance when engaging in online transactions. Residents are urged to report any suspicious activity promptly to law enforcement authorities to prevent falling victim to such scams in the future.
