New International Optical Trade Body Confirms First Executive Board

In a major development for the optical security sector, the newly established International Optical Technologies Association (IOTA) has officially confirmed its inaugural executive board. This strategic move aims to address the rapid advancements of technology that are revolutionizing optical security, surpassing traditional practices such as holography.

The IOTA, which transitioned from the International Hologram Manufacturers Association, has appointed a diverse and experienced board comprising key leaders in the industry. Notable members include Ondřej Fedorčák from Optaglio, Manoj Kochar from Holoflex, Don Havourd from Hazen Paper Company, Jim Keller from Opsec Security, and Alexandre Noizet from Surys. Dr. Mark Deakes, the newly elected chair, is set to lead efforts focused on authentication, anti-counterfeiting, and automation technologies aimed at global law enforcement, central authorities, and brand owners well into 2025 and beyond.

“Innovation is pushing the boundaries of what optical security technologies can achieve, and we stand on the cusp of a transformative era,” said Dr. Deakes. He emphasized the importance of IOTA in advocating for a rapidly growing industry, stating that the organization’s formation reflects a commitment to embracing evolving markets and exploring new technological frontiers.

As the field of optical security experiences continual growth, with increasing applications and strategic acquisitions among providers, IOTA is positioned to represent a diverse range of technologies. Beyond holography, the association’s scope extends to include micro-lens arrays, plasmonics, photonic crystals, and a myriad of print-generated effects.

Former chair of the IHMA, Dr. Paul Dunn, will continue to contribute his expertise in a consultancy role as IOTA embarks on this exciting new chapter. The establishment of the board heralds a concerted effort to capture the momentum of innovation in optical security technologies, ensuring robust representation in the industry.
