SCATI Strengthens Security at Egypt’s Red Sea Oil Complex with Advanced Surveillance Solutions

In a significant move to bolster security, one of Egypt’s leading oil companies has partnered with SCATI to enhance the protection of its strategic facilities along the Red Sea. This complex, recognized as one of the largest oil exploration and production infrastructures in the country, encompasses both land and offshore platforms, as well as a heliport. The geographical dispersion of these assets presents multiple critical points that necessitate continuous surveillance and robust security measures.

The Challenge

The operational landscape of the Red Sea oil complex is fraught with challenges. The region’s environmental conditions, characterized by high salinity, constant humidity, and harsh marine elements, pose serious risks to the integrity and functionality of security equipment. These factors can accelerate corrosion, potentially compromising the performance and lifespan of surveillance technologies.

Moreover, the remote nature of the facility makes it particularly susceptible to unauthorized intrusions and security threats, especially during nighttime operations. Previous incidents involving theft in warehouse areas and along pipeline routes underscored the urgent need for a comprehensive and intelligent security solution. Such a system would not only ensure operational continuity but also protect valuable assets and facilitate effective real-time monitoring and access control.

To address these pressing challenges, SCATI developed a tailored security solution specifically designed for hostile marine environments. This solution integrates advanced video surveillance technologies, intelligent analytics, and centralized management capabilities.

The Solution

The security framework implemented at the facility includes over 250 IP cameras strategically positioned across land, sea, and air operational zones. This extensive deployment ensures comprehensive coverage of critical infrastructure.

To withstand the demanding environmental conditions of the Red Sea, SCATI opted for corrosion-resistant cameras in vulnerable areas. Thermal cameras were also deployed to monitor marine zones, enabling the detection of human presence and unusual activity, even under low-visibility conditions. Additionally, long-range PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras were integrated into the system, providing continuous surveillance across vast operational areas.

Motorized PTZ dome cameras equipped with automatic tracking capabilities patrol more than 12 kilometers of land perimeter. This proactive approach allows security operators to identify and respond to potential intrusion attempts before they escalate.

The solution further incorporates a License Plate Recognition (LPR) system at the facility’s main entrance. This technology automatically identifies authorized vehicles, records entry and exit activities, and generates alerts for unauthorized access attempts, thereby reinforcing ground-level security controls.

All video streams and security data are managed through SCATI VISION recorders, which are equipped with redundancy and high-availability features. This ensures uninterrupted operation, even during power failures or communication disruptions. Operators can monitor images and events from a centralized control center, accessing a unified platform that combines live video feeds, facility maps, and automated alerts for efficient incident management.

Advanced video analytics enhance the system’s capabilities by providing intelligent event detection. This feature enables proactive responses to security incidents, reducing reaction times and improving operational decision-making.

The Benefits

The implementation of SCATI’s end-to-end security solution has led to a marked reduction in incidents related to unauthorized access and theft across the facility. Unified surveillance of land, sea, and air operations has optimized security resource allocation without increasing operational costs. Comprehensive perimeter protection and automated access control have significantly strengthened overall site security.

The integration of intelligent monitoring technologies has transformed security from a reactive process into a strategic component of operational continuity. This evolution allows the organization to anticipate risks and respond effectively to potential threats.

SCATI’s project at the Red Sea oil complex exemplifies its capability to deliver customized solutions for demanding environments. By combining robust technology with advanced analytics, SCATI ensures reliable protection in critical infrastructure sectors. The adaptation of its systems to the unique challenges of the marine environment further reinforces SCATI’s position as a trusted provider of innovative security solutions, capable of safeguarding assets, enhancing efficiency, and supporting safe, uninterrupted operations.

This advanced security solution not only protects one of Egypt’s vital oil production facilities but also sets a new standard for intelligent security management in challenging and high-risk environments.
